Thorrington School of Rock

The Thorrington School of Rock formed in 2006 and has gone from success to success ever since. Goto the TSOR Blog here!

During 2006 they played several times in the school, including assemblies and an outdoor lunchtime concert. They played another lunchtime concert at Banks Ave School.

In 2007 the band played in several assemblies. They also entered the My School Band Rocks music video competition for Juice TV, and the Nick Rocks recording competition for Nickelodeon TV. They also played at the school Performance Evening, at Zebedee's and at Linwood North School. It was at Zebedee's that the band first coined a band name: TSOR (Thorrington School of Rock).

In 2008 TSOR entered the Smokefree Rockquest and performed the song Tell me the Answer, written by our then ‘own fantastic’ Louis Fernandes. The judges were impressed with the band’s song and line up.

Tell me the Answer, was later recorded for the Nick Rocks Competition for Nickelodeon TV. Two school parents Paul Sparkes and Jo Nixon later shot a video for Tell Me the Answer combining this with the sound recording. The results were amazing, and got the band/song into the Top Ten on Juice TV's My School Band Rocks competition nationwide!

Later that year they played at the school's Jubilee Family Fun Day on 17 October 2008. Band members said, “It was the best live sound we've ever had.”

During 2009 the TSOR entered the Nickelodeon competition again with a song called Signposts, this time written by another student, Tim McCarthy. The band did so well they were placed in the top three in NZ.

Into 2010 the band still meets regularly under the guidance of Mr Gemmill. They are always looking for new talent. Perhaps this is something that YOU would like to get involved in? Classical instruments are very welcome.
