School Policies
Thorrington operates a 5 Policy system with different procedures under each one. The five policies are:

Employer Responsibility Policy
Thorrington School develops and implements personnel and industrial policies within policy and procedural frameworks set by Government. These promote high levels of staff performance, using educational resources effectively and recognize the needs of students.

Thorrington School acts as a good employer as defined in the State Sector Act 1988, the Employment Relations Act 2000 and complies with the conditions contained in employment contracts for teaching and non-teaching staff.

Health and Safety Policy
Thorrington School provides a safe, physical and emotional environment for students, employees, parents and visitors through complying with any legislation currently in force or that may be developed to ensure the safety of students, employees, parents and visitors.

Resources Policy
Thorrington School allocates funds to reflect the school’s priorities as outlined in the Charter. We monitor and control school expenditure, and ensure that annual accounts are prepared and audited as required by the Public Finance Act 1989 and the Education Act 1989.

We comply with the negotiated conditions of any current asset management agreement, and implement a maintenance programme, including regular inspections to ensure that the school’s buildings and facilities provide a safe, healthy learning environment for students.

Student Achievement Policy
At Thorrington School we put in place a comprehensive programme that ensures all students have access to high quality teaching and learning.

Administration Policy
Thorrington School complies with all legal administration requirements (not covered in other school policies) as outlined in current legislation and directives, such as, Education Act 1989; Copyright Act 1994; Human Rights Act 1993; Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987; MOE Circulars; National Administration Guidelines (NAG) 2 & 6; New Zealand Bill of Rights Act 1990; Official Information Act 1989; Privacy Act 1993; Protected Disclosures Act 2000, or that may be developed.
